In a press conference held on Friday, April 18th, Jason Tindall, Newcastle United's assistant head coach, addressed the media ahead of their upcoming match against Aston Villa. With Eddie Howe still recovering from pneumonia, Tindall took charge of the briefing, sharing key insights and updates on the team's preparations and player performances.
Tindall emphasised the challenge that lies ahead, noting Aston Villa's impressive home record this season. He acknowledged the difficulty of the game, stating, "It’s going to be an incredibly tough game, we know that. They’ve only lost once at home this season so we know what type of challenge we’ll be facing. They’re trying to achieve the same goal we are. It’ll be two teams going out there to try and win the game."
Discussing team selection, Tindall highlighted the importance of maintaining consistency and rewarding players for their excellent performances. He mentioned, "When you’re in good form and winning games it becomes difficult to change your team unless you feel players aren’t performing. The players are collectively and individually delivering excellent performances. In some senses, the team does pick itself but we’ve got a fantastic squad and everyone’s played their part this season."

Reflecting on Newcastle's recent 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace, Tindall expressed his satisfaction with the team's consistency and ability to back up their performance against Manchester United. He said, "Really pleased with the performance. The most important thing was that we showed consistency and backed up the performance we put in against Manchester United. I was absolutely delighted."
Tindall also praised individual players like Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes for their contributions. He commended Murphy's hard work and reliability, stating, "Full credit to Jacob. He’s been at the football club a long time and I’m sure if he was someone we signed at the start of the season or January from somewhere then he would be receiving more plaudits than he is. His performances certainly don’t surprise myself or the manager. He works extremely hard on a day-to-day basis. He takes everything in tactically and week in, week out we know we can rely on him."
Regarding Harvey Barnes, Tindall highlighted his positive attitude and strong performances since joining the team. He remarked, "Testament to all the players who weren’t starting games for a period. They come in and deliver performances but you can only do that if you’ve got the right attitude in your work day in day out and is consistent, you’re mentally strong and deal with frustrations in the right way. Certainly Harvey has done that since he’s come into the team. He’s delivered excellent performances individually, but team performances as well"
.
As Newcastle prepares for their crucial match against Aston Villa, Tindall's press conference provided valuable insights into the team's mindset and readiness. With a strong squad and key players in form, Newcastle aims to continue their winning streak and solidify their position in the hunt for Champions League football for next season."
