Head to Head records: Away v Norwich

Wijnaldum ran riot against Norwich the last time the two sides were both in the Premier League.

Both of these teams go into the match on Saturday having lost their respective opening day fixtures against top six sides.

Norwich have a few players in the squad with connections to Newcastle. Tim Krul was the Magpies' number one goalkeeper for five seasons, the Dutch goalkeeper managed to keep 49 clean sheets in a Newcastle shirt. Norwich's captain, Grant Hanley spent just over a year at the club and scored in the 6-0 win over QPR in September 2016 before his departure from Tyneside to Norwich two years ago. Fellow defender Max Aarons is the cousin of Newcastle winger, Rolando Aarons.

As far as recent history goes in matches between these two sides, neutrals have been treated to a goal fest with 24 goals being scored in the last four games between the Magpies and Canaries - an average of six goals per game. This includes the time Newcastle snatched all three points thanks to a Dwight Gayle hat-trick (Gayle blew them away that night) and two last minute goals to secure a 4-3 win in September 2016 which prompted a winning streak for Newcastle in all competitions which lasted for a further eight matches. There was also the unforgettable 6-2 win in October 2015 when Georginio Wijnaldum scored four goals to secure the club's first three points that season.

Despite ourselves having an excellent record against Norwich at St. James' Park, the same however cannot be said for Carrow Road. January 1994 was the last time Newcastle came away with all three points from East Anglia in Newcastle's debut season in the Premier League.
