The Ajax and Netherlands midfielder is one of the players who could be on the radar.

Newcastle United's £300m takeover is still in process, but the upcoming summer transfer window poses many questions over which players can be of the interest of the club.

Various websites suggest some of the Europe’s best young players are linked to the Newcastle United. Donny van de Beek is the one of those on the list, being one of the highest-ranked midfielders and wanted by many clubs, due to his performances in last season's Champions League.

His 41 goals and 34 assists in 175 appearances for Ajax has made him one of the standout performers. His career started when his father Andre took him along to Veensche Boys’ academy, where he once played.

His father Andre told AjaxShowtime in 2016:

“After the first training session, he was completely sold, and the ball never disappeared from his life.”

The Ajax midfielder's style of play was outlined by Goal.com who described him as a player who has “excellent control and a great eye for a pass as he links up with the attack and is dangerous, as he makes runs into the box". One of his biggest strengths is the ability to generate key passes and he likes to do layoffs.

The 23-year-old is worth £39.6m, according to the last update on April 8 on the Transfermarkt website. The site provides with all historic rumours regarding the player, with interested clubs being for example Real Madrid, Spurs and PSG during 2019 season. He still has two years left on his contract with Ajax, which lasts until 30.06.2022.

Chronicle Live article by Joe Donnohue from 30 April describes:

“It is no secret the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund has considerable spending power and despite Financial Fair Play restrictions, Newcastle would still be able to spend comparatively more than they have in recent seasons. The club could be tempted to spend large sums on big-name players on huge wages to usher in a new era, but smart signings should be top of the agenda.”

The alleged takeover first needs to occur and then the owners will need to make immediate statement of intent, in order to make any signing possible. Moreover whether there is a takeover or not, Rafa Benitez is still to sign a contract extension. Some fans expressed their opinion about the possibility of such signing on twitter:

Marcel van der Kraan, Dutch journalist speaking to Sky Sports, said:

“This is probably the biggest chance of a move happening. If I had to put my money on a player leaving, it would definitely be Donny van de Beek.

“He is an ideal player for the Premier League, he has the skills and a big tank so he can run all day. Van de Beek seems the perfect backup for the big clubs.”
