Given there has only been like four goals between them so far this year. It is going to be a hard job to rate these players.
Andy Carroll
It was fantastic to see him re-sign for the club and it was a long time coming as well. On this occasion, it has sadly, once again, he has been plagued by injuries.
That being said, when he has played, he has actually looked as if he is capable of leading the line and be a centre forward. Believe it or not, he has four assists to his name so far this season.
If he is able to stay fit, we would not have an issue on the strikers front.
I think he would be a great addition in the 4-2-3-1 formation and be a good alternative to Gayle or Joelinton.

Yoshinori Muto
Hardly been seen this season and I wonder why he has not been playing. He has still not had a good run in the first team since we paid £9million for him in summer 2018. I am questioning as to why we signed him. I loved Rafa Benitez but there is little wonder that no one wanted to give him money considering some of the flops he brought in like Achraf Lazaar, Jacob Murphy, Joselu and Muto; those signings come to a combined £29million.
Back onto Muto, a positive moment is when he scored against Leicester in the Carabao Cup 2nd Round this season. However, he has been not given games to play in other than the disaster that was Leicester City away in September.
I believe we should sell the Japanese international as he is never going to get the chance.
Best moment: Goal against Leicester

Dwight Gayle
I'm actually really disappointed with Gayle this season. On reflection, looking at the many chances he has missed like in the matches against Burnley, Man United, the four against Southampton. He could have easily been our top goalscorer!
When he has played, he has shown he can link up the play really well and shows his experience of playing up top with the runs he makes. I don't know what it is but, in the Premier League, he just does not know where the net is, even when it is staring him in the face!
I could have given him a higher mark for his performances this season if he had taken at least half of his chances. I still believe he can contribute and click eventually but it has been pretty frustrating in bits with Gayle. The talent is there to get in the right positions. However, in a Newcastle top, he has lacked composure this season.
Best moment: Assisting Almiron at Wolves

Joelinton This is the big one. Our £40million record signing winge…. Cough* number 9 striker from TSG Hoffenheim. I still cannot see why we paid so much for someone who does not play up top. He has shown he can play on the wing. I still think we can see the best of him on the wing but, the point is, we paid a lot of money for someone who is not fit for purpose. That is not Joe's fault though, it is down to the recruitment at the club.
As a striker, I hate to say it, he lacks to have the qualities of a good striker. He lacks the awareness of when to run into the box or how to link up the play. He can hold the ball up, but when he lays it off to someone, he does not run on to keep the move going. I agree to some point that the formation was not helping him but even in that system, when we had chances, he was behind the play a lot of the time. It's not as if he is a poor player because he has shown small glimpses of how good he can be. When he gets into that important space, he is able to finish. With the exception of Rochdale away, any good chance that has been presented unto him, he has put it away. I'll back him up and agree he will get better but I do not think he has a future as a CF. Give him a chance on the wing with miggy and ASM, we will soon see the best of him. We are in need of a striker in the summer though or whenever the transfer window is going to be.
