In defense of Sean Longstaff

I have seen quite a few posts on various pages, twitter comments, YouTube etc. Calling this lad 'overrated' or 'not up to standard' is very fickle in my view. The lad is still in his breakthrough year at the club. People have not realised this when they have criticised him. Throughout that year he had a major injury too. Don't get me wrong, I am not going to deny he has had one or two shocking performances this season. Yesterday and Burnley being standout games in that respect. However people forget he has had a couple of games where he has played a blinder. Tottenham away, Man United at home and made a difference in the game against Southampton when he came on as a substitute.

He is still a young Geordie lad and we need to get behind him. Many people jumped on the bandwagon when he came through last season and people should stick with him. Because the Longstaffs are the club's future, they both will get better with experience. There is a reason Man United wanted Sean in the summer because they see potential and quality in him, even after the mere 12 Premier League games he had last season. Something like this is unheard of for man United to want to pay-up £35million after such little experience at the highest level. In relation, we need to make sure the foreseeable futures of both of the Longstaff brothers is sorted and, more importantly, with Newcastle United. Please, Lee Charnley, get it done! The one thing Steve Bruce has done very well is his man management. I have every faith he will get the very best out of Sean Longstaff. I do agree, to some extent, that Sean does need to improve if he is to make the squad ahead of Jonjo Shelvey. However people just need to be patient and support the lad because he has to the potential to be our best midfielder for the next decade. Stick with Sean. He is firing again. He will be unstoppable! NE29!
