Encounters with Burnley have been fairly even throughout history since their first encounter in 1895.
Over the years, they have managed to achieve eight league doubles each against each other, leaving 34 seasons where neither team managed to achieve a double.
As far as the Premier League is concerned, there has not been much history between the two sides but club history tells a very different story as Burnley were top flight regulars following the second world war up until 1971, during which time the Clarets managed to win the top flight in the 1959/60 season.
Back in February 2019, the two sides met for the 100th time in league matches which saw local youth academy product, Sean Longstaff score his first senior goal for Newcastle to set up a comfortable win.
For other local youth academy products, this fixture has not all been plain sailing. Jak Alnwick was drafted into the first team in the 2014/15 season following injuries to Tim Krul and Rob Elliot. Alnwick was the man between the sticks and 'goal-shy' Burnley hit three past him in a 3-3 draw at St. James' Park on New Years' Day 2015 - Burnley scored a total of 28 goals that season.
