Head to Head records: Away v Aston Villa

Back to back wins for the first time this season has given Newcastle found hope in their usual recovery in the month of November.

Considering the Premier League is without Middlesbrough and Sunderland this season, Aston Villa is arguably the club's biggest rivals in the Premier League following their unprovoked taunting of Newcastle fans in 2009 and 2016.

As far as recent history is concerned, Newcastle arguably have the upper hand despite the last three away meetings ending as draws. Notably, Villa have not won in this fixture since April 2011. However since the turn of the century, Villa Park has not been a truly happy place for the club. Back in 2004/05 a 4-2 defeat was Sir Bobby Robson's final game as a manager, a decision that the club's ownership would undoubtedly go on to regret.

A remarkable fact in the history between the two sides is that they never played out a goalless draw in no fewer than 87 consecutive occasions spanning from September 1924 and April 2004.

One key talking point for Newcastle fans is that this will be the first Newcastle match that will be played since captain Jamaal Lascelles got injured against Bournemouth and news since broke that he will remain out until the New Year. However, as one centre back steps aside, two centre backs will be returning from injuries. Fabian Schar and Florian Lejeune are expected to be fit enough to play, the latter has been out since April.
