Is it time for Rafa to consider promoting youth?

With the current form of the senior squad at an all time low, the fans are rightly frustrated at Mike Ashley's incompetence to back Rafa Benitez.

The pressure continues to pile on the senior team and the weight that they are carrying to find their first win is damaging the players confidence on the pitch, strikers are out of form and not many players have the confidence to take ownership and take their man on or be bold with the ball.

Newcastle United are well and truly struggling to get their season going after a ruthless and unforgiving run of fixtures back at the start of this season.

While there is still no clarity on the January transfer funds situation for Benitez, I feel his best option is to look down the ranks and potentially promote individuals to train with the senior team until the fat man in head office knows what he's doing.

Waiting till January for change is too long, 10 games with the current group of players and no win to show for it is now worrying.

I get that football is a business, decisions made by the management staff can have a heavy effect on the way a season will pan out and I understand that Rafa is a proven football coach who understands better than most the credentials a player needs to make it from youth to senior level, but in fairness the U23's have a good case, of which could provide some answers to the current problems that Rafa's squad are currently dealing with.

Ben Dawson's U23's have peaked in the Premier League 2 Division 2, despite sitting 10th placed their goal scoring form has been nothing short of stunning and the confidence the team will have now is something the senior team is missing.

The star of the team is the Danish wonder kid Elias Sorensen who has had an incredible season to date. Two hat-tricks in two months and found the back of the net 11 times so far this season should not go unnoticed by Rafa who is looking for a goal scorer with confidence.

Who should Rafa choose to promote?

In terms of who is most deserving of a call up and who possess raw talent: Elias Sorensen comes to mind.. who is the most confident player that Newcastle have right now.

The Danish striker has been tearing it up in the Premier League 2 division 2, scoring 11 goals so far with a most recent hat-trick in a 5-2 win against Aston Villa.

Sorensen looks to be the best option that we have that is physically available, when I was talking about the credentials that a player needs to be promoted from youth to senior, Elias Sorensen looks a player that posses all those credentials needed to be a successful striker at senior level, the lad can create his own goals, can poach in the box, score with two feet and head as well as being a team player.

PL legends Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen made it into the senior team from youth level as teenagers, let it be the same for this kid.

Sean Longstaff one of the co stars to Elias Sorensen's show, does a lot of work for the team and can play as a number 6 or as a number 8 in different formations.

Sean has been an important supplier to Sorensen's goals or creating opportunities for others to assist the forwards, not to forget that Sean has already trained with the first team this season and was on the bench against Chelsea, definitely another player in with a shout.

Callum Roberts who plays as a right winger in Ben Dawson's 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 and would play well in the same position should he be given the opportunity to play in Benitez's team.

This mobile forwards confidence has proven to be a handful for opposition defenders which has got the job done as he has scored 3 goals and created 3 goals for his teammates.

Rafa's tactics needs alternatives for when the grapes turn sour, Sorensen, Roberts and Longstaff are all playing really good football so far this season and it would make sense to promote them to senior level while they are playing so well. Even if Rafa doesn't change his tactics, the priority should be to promote Sorensen as we are desperate for a striker that plays with confidence.

Do you think Rafa Benitez will consider promoting any of these players from the U23's or will he leave them with Ben Dawson? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section!
